About Us

Our Story

Welcome to Threshold of Hope Africa! We are a dynamic youth-led organization, founded in 2020 by Stinicah Kemunto and Okwany Jared, and officially registered in 2022. Our mission is to create a brighter future by shining a light on mental health and its related issues. We are passionate about mentoring Very Young Adolescents on sexual reproductive health and emotional resilience through education, peer support, advocacy, and activism.

Stinicah Kemunto, our founder, is a spirited Kenyan mental health activist and a champion for those with psychiatric disabilities. With unwavering dedication, she serves the community and supports individuals with mental illnesses in Kisii and Nyamira counties, with an extension to Migori County.

On December 17, 2021, we organized a remarkable mental health awareness walk in Kisii County, in collaboration with our partners from Kivulini Mental Healthy Minds. This event was a tremendous success, with three individuals sharing their lived experiences, igniting a transformative shift in people’s perspectives on mental illness and mental health.

In 2022, from June to December, we provided essential support to 13 patients, assisting them in accessing medication and receiving free consultation services from our esteemed partners, who are psychiatric professionals.

During the same year, we had the privilege of constructing a house for one of our patients, providing ongoing support until her unfortunate passing in January 2023. Rest in peace, Rebecca.

Our impact extends beyond communities. We conduct school mentorship programs that empower adolescents, enabling them to find their voice and save lives through open conversation.

Recognizing the deep connection between mental health and the environment, we incorporate tree planting into all our activities. Climate change affects mental health, and by acknowledging this reality, we take a holistic approach to well-being.

Looking ahead to May 2023, we are excited to announce our upcoming two-day medical camp. This event aims to target individuals from Bomachoge Borabu and Bomachoge Chache Constituencies, promoting mental health awareness through a walk and screening.

Let’s come together, break the silence surrounding mental illness, and end the stigma. Join us on this extraordinary journey toward hope and transformation.
